What input tests can show

Input tests show every key press, click, touch and stick movement the moment your browser receives it, so a key that does not register, a button that double-clicks or a stick that moves on its own is obvious. Nothing you type or press is recorded.

Use the Keyboard Test for dead, stuck or double-typing keys, the Mouse Test for clicks, double-clicks and the scroll wheel, the Touch Screen Test for dead zones and multi-touch, the Gamepad Test for controller buttons, triggers and vibration, and the Stick Drift Test to measure drift and find a deadzone.

Before you start

  • Click inside the test area first so the page receives your input.
  • Some keys and gestures are reserved by the operating system or browser and never reach a web page.
  • Plug in the gamepad and press any button so the browser can detect it.
  • To wipe a laptop keyboard without typing into anything, lock the keys with the Keyboard Cleaner first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my keyboard?

Open the Keyboard Test, click inside the page and press each key. Each key lights up on the diagram when the browser receives it, so a key that never lights up has not registered.

Why do some keys not register in the browser?

The operating system or the browser keeps some keys for itself, such as Fn, Print Screen, media keys and some shortcuts, so a web page never sees them. That does not mean the key is broken.

Can I test a PlayStation or Xbox controller?

Yes, if your browser can see it. Connect it by USB or Bluetooth and press a button; the Gamepad Test then shows its buttons, sticks and triggers, and offers a vibration check where the browser supports it (Chrome and Edge, and Safari on Mac). Motion sensors, the touchpad surface and adaptive triggers are not available through the Gamepad API.
