Gamepad Test

Connect a controller, press any button so the browser notices it, and watch each control respond on the diagram. Stick drift and dead buttons are easy to spot.

No controller detected. Connect one and press any button.

Waiting for a controller.

Browsers reveal a controller only after you press a button on it. Rumble and motion sensors are not exposed.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to use

  1. Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth, then press any button so the browser detects it. With more than one connected, pick one from the Controller list.
  2. Press each button and pull each trigger. Buttons light up and triggers show how far they are pulled.
  3. Move each stick in a full circle and let it go. It should return to the exact center; a stick that sits off center for two seconds without moving is flagged as possible drift.
  4. Press each direction of the D-pad.

What this test can detect

  • Buttons that do not register or stay pressed.
  • Stick drift: a stick that does not rest at center.
  • Triggers that do not reach full travel or jump in steps.
  • A controller that connects but is not recognized by the browser at all.

Important

  • Browsers only expose a controller after you press a button on it, for privacy.
  • Not every controller uses the standard layout. Buttons may appear in a different position on the diagram than on the controller.
  • Rumble, gyroscope and touchpads are not shown by the Gamepad API in most browsers.
