Screen Uniformity Test

A uniform screen shows one flat color from corner to corner. Solid fields at several levels make bright spots, dark patches and tint shifts stand out.

How to use

  1. Clean the screen and dim the room.
  2. Press Start test and look at each field from straight on.
  3. For white and gray, look for areas that seem darker, lighter or a different tint.
  4. For black, look for lighter patches or corners.
  5. For red, green and blue, look for patches where the color looks weaker or shifted.

What this test can detect

  • Bright spots and dark spots, including pressure marks.
  • Clouding and mura: irregular patches that are slightly lighter or darker.
  • Dim edges or corners, common on edge-lit LCDs.
  • A color tint that changes across the panel, such as one side looking warmer.

Important

  • A small brightness fall-off toward the edges is normal on most LCDs, especially large ones.
  • What you see depends on viewing angle. Sit centered and at normal distance.
  • This test shows relative differences only. It does not measure luminance or color.
